the song story of ENDLESS LIGHT

I actually wrote this song back in 2014 when I was still at Kota Kinabalu. I still remember the feeling clearly -- writing the song in my room then feeling excited after finishing writing it. At the same time, there was a youth camp coming up that time and being a passionate guy as I am, I suggested to my friend if it can be used for it. Maybe the timing is too tight or maybe it's rare some camps would want a self-composed song, so that idea is being overlooked. Well, not the first time that my songs get overlooked but hey, it's a blessing in disguise because I get to keep it for my own repertoire.

So that's where in 2018, I explored the idea of singing that song in a live Christian concert and a demo was made for it so the band can rehearse. Jumping back to this year, I admit I actually explored the idea of changing this "Christian contemporary music" (or CCM, as some called it) anthem into a more pop/radio-friendly/general anthem. Kinda following the footsteps of my favourite band Switchfoot. After bouncing ideas with my producers LxD (you know who they are), they felt it's best we kept the original message and the feel of the song. It made sense, at the end of the day, for me because at the end of the day, I should be releasing songs (or content) as naturally and genuine as it should be. Not for the sake of getting attention/likes/fame. Recording the "proper" version of it somewhat was a relief because it's a song that meant to be heard out there. The heart of the song is quite simple -- to stir one another to live well. It is also rooted in this verse in Philippians 2:14-15 that says "Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky"

No matter what you believe in... no matter what belief or ideology... I think we all can agree that we cannot let evil and darkness get a hold in our lives, in our nation and in our world. So friends, do what you can to bring hope to the community that you are in -- be it writing awesome songs/music, helping someone to get through life, speaking the truth, speaking against injustice. Martin Luther King Jr said it best -- " "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." Thus, the title of the song is called ENDLESS LIGHT ;)
